Massage is the therapeutic use of touch, by hands or sometimes other parts of the body such as forearms, elbows or feet. Human touch can have a profound effect on physical and emotional wellbeing. By applying pressure to the underlying soft tissues/muscles in a series of movements and techniques that include stroking, rubbing, kneading and pressing, the experience of massage can be either soothing or stimulating.
The ancient Egyptians, Greeks and Romans all used massage for healing and health as well as for pleasure and in India, China and Japan, massage forms an integral part of whole systems of medicine.
The massage that I practice is Swedish Body Massage. Swedish Body Massage is a holistic treatment that is widely used in clinics, health farms, fitness & leisure centres and beauty salons to relieve stress and promote relaxation and a feeling of wellbeing. During full body massage the client is fully covered by towels and only the area being worked on is uncovered at any time during the treatment (underwear is kept on, although it is necessary to undo the bra at the time of the back massage). The areas worked on are the fronts of legs, arms, neck and shoulder area, abdomen, backs of leg and the back. The clients modesty is protected at all times.
